Safe Pressure Washing Chemicals
Pressure washing is a method of cleaning that amazingly can remove years of dirt and gunk with plain water. The secret is to spray the water out at such a velocity that it forces up any substance that is adhering to a surface. However, some jobs require more than just the use of water.
There are different types of pressure washing chemicals that can help make the job a little easier. The ingredients in the solutions are specifically designed to loosen up difficult stains or substances that are hard to remove.
The type of pressure washing chemicals to use certainly depends on the job at hand. When cleaning metal you need a different solution than for cleaning vinyl siding and a wooden deck will need to be cleaned with an even more delicate solution.
Before choosing pressure washing chemicals make sure first of all that they are appropriate for what you will be washing. Next make sure that they are safe for you pressure washer. Some chemicals can wear out or damage the hose, seals or other components of your pressure washer. This is why it is important to use pressure washing chemicals that are specifically designed for these machines or otherwise approved.
Most of the pressure washing chemicals that are available commercially are biodegradable. This means you are not harming the environment when you use them outside. They are safe for humans, as well, but it is still necessary to wear protective eye gear to keep from getting the chemicals in your eyes, but more importantly in case the high pressure spray should inadvertently get pointed in your face.
Generally the best way to use pressure washing chemicals is to first wet the area to be cleaned and then to lightly spray the surface with the chemicals so it can sit on the surface and soak in, loosening up the unwanted substances. After five or ten minutes the area is pressure washed, leaving a clean surface.
No matter what type of chemical you are using, be aware that the spray will not all stay on the home or driveway. At least small amounts will drift onto grass, flowers and other plants in the work area. For this reason it is a good idea to first spray down the plants with water and after the job is done to rinse them off again, removing any cleaner that may have collected.
To purchase pressure washing chemicals, look to your local home improvement store or wherever you purchased your power washer. Alternately you can find cleaning solutions online. This is a good source as you can also get additional information about the cleaners and possibly even read reviews of customers who have tried them, giving you a good idea of what you could expect if you used them yourself.
